STUP is a French acronym which stands for: Societe Technique pour I’ Utilisation de la Precontrainte, i.e. Technical Corporation for the Utilisation of Pre-stressed Concrete. STUP France was set up in Paris in 1944 to extend, across the world, the knowledge of prestressed concrete and other inventions of Eugene Freyssinet. STUP’s first global offices for consultancy were set up in 1963 under the chairmanship of Mr. Yves Guyon, Technical Director of STUP France and pioneer in pre-stressed concrete design, who was the most eminent associate of Eugène Freyssinet. Mr. Yves Guyon gave pre-stressed concrete its theoretical basis and transferred this technology across the globe by setting up engineering consultancy groups in the Americas, France, Africa, Asia and the Middle-East to attract & train indigenous professionals, to create centres of excellence, which could service diverse architectural and engineering needs of these regions. STUP is manned by more than 1200 highly trained and experienced personnel who provide a wide range of expert services in almost all disciplines of civil engineering, planning, architecture and associated electrical and mechanical engineering through their global offices in America, France, Asia and the Middle-East
